Keeping it simple

When you scratch the surface of accessibility, you quickly realise that there's an endless range of areas that impact the experience of peoples movement. Very quickly you'll find yourself starting to get down to the granular detail of specific surfaces, gradients, entry and exit points.

Our approach is to keep it simple. No track is going to be perfect, and in fact, when it comes to experiencing the outdoors, part of the sense of achievement is overcoming some physical barriers.
In each of our categories we highlight if a point of interest presents no major concerns, or if its a barrier worth considering.

Each point of interest is presented as either:
  1. Green: no major concerns
  2. Orange: a barrier to consider

Each point of interest is assigned to a category, which is represented by an icon:
  1. Facility: A physical structure (e.g. public toilet), or amenity
  2. Parking: Is it a safe area with accessible parking?
  3. Entry / Exit: Highlighting any gates or styles
  4. Bridge / Crossing: Ability to cross rivers or roads etc.
  5. Feature: A view or water access
  6. Crossroads: A decision point – which direction is more desirable?
  7. Pathway: Type of terrain or surface as well and camber or gradient
  8. Signage: Document of available signage or interpretations
