Before you get started

Some tech stuff you need to understand before we get into it.

GPS, Online and Offline

There are some basic features and background technology the are important to be aware of when using the App.

To ensure the App continues to work in remote environments, it has been designed to work offline. This means that all the data you collect during your profiling experience will be stored on the App until you have completed your journey.

The App will then check whether you have a Wifi connection or are using Mobile data. If Mobile data is available basic track data (journey lines and point information) will be synced to the Moderation tool. If you are on Wifi, the App will sync all data including images.

NOTE: Due to the number of high resolution images collected during a profiling experience, the App will only sync images on a Wifi connection to save on mobile data usage.

Make sure your phone is fully charged

The App is regularly checking and recording your location, which means the CPU on your phone is continually active, drawing power from your battery. High resolution images also require a large amount of processing. Both these activities will have an impact on your battery life.

It is important that your phone is fully charged, or if you're planning a full day of profiling to have a portable recharge kit with you.

NOTE: The rate of battery decline will vary from phone to phone. Keep a note of the length of time you use the App and the amount of battery charge consumed. This will be helpful when planning longer profiling experiences.
